The Machelen Canal Zone (at the Vilvoorde viaduct of the Brussels Beltway) is a region that was long marked by the closure of industry plants such as Renault, Franki and Bona Sabla. It is an area looking for a fresh start. Uplace will bring a vibrant, surprising ‘all in one’ destination to the region. It will be a one-stop experience destination that is all about creating, discovery, experience, fun, relaxation and enjoyment. At Uplace, working, living, shopping and relaxing will blend seamlessly.

Authentic architecture

Uplace Machelen was designed by Benoy, an international architecture firm based in Londen and Newark (UK), Hong Kong, Shanghai and Abu Dhabi (www.benoy.com). The architecture refers to the rich industrial past of the region with a strong emphasis on local authenticity. A ‘city within a city’ feeling is created with different zones, squares, streets and public spaces with an offering tailored to the different audiences. Attention is given to environmentally-friendly building and sustainable management.
