“I’ve been on the Uplace train for eight years now, working to turn our founders’ dreams into a viable real estate product. I know every nook and cranny at Uplace like the back of my hands. From an architectural and ecological point of view, Uplace is our showpiece. While its architecture reflects the rich history of the area, our aim is also to make it a zero emissions project in ecological terms. I’ve worked on our project’s mobility and accessibility plans and I can assure you that the modal shift will provide for perfect access to our site. We shall use every type of new technology relating to the choice of materials, traffic guidance systems and CO2-reducing elements. We want the people of the Noordrand to be proud of this project.”
After graduating as an engineer, Bart joined the engineering and architecture firm Styfhals. Attracted by the practical side, he then joined the contractors Ibens and Heijmans where he filled every possible position: works foreman, project manager, cost engineer, planner, purchaser, safety and quality coordinator, IT supervisor and manager. After ten years, he left for Optima Financial Planners to help expand the technical department and monitor their real estate portfolio. He had developed more than 750 apartments and obtained planning permission for the Ghent stadium when Uplace invited Bart to take up a real challenge: the development of offices, logistics buildings and, last but not least, an all-in-one experience destination. In the past eight years, he has been able to refine and further build his skills. After all, building is more than just putting one stone on top of another.
