“When I was at the helm of Eurinpro, I travelled the world. Because I felt guilty, I used to bring back presents for my family. Things that you couldn’t find here. At one point I thought: why not bring all those nice, cool things together in one location. In other words: create a world of experiences under a single roof. This initial gut feeling was the subject of in-depth scientific research and we thoroughly tested the concept among the population. That’s how Uplace was born.”
After starting out as a consultant for KPMG, Bart quickly decided to become an entrepreneur himself. He began at Verhelst where he created the real estate logistics group Eurinpro. After the group was sold, Bart Verhaeghe studied the need for an ‘all in one’ experience destination in Belgium and established Uplace in 2007.
Today, Bart is the chairman and owner of Uplace, Club Brugge and the investment fund Noorhof Fund. He is also the chairman of the think tank Itinera Institute, the founder and chairman of the Uplace Pro Triathlon Team, and a director of the Vlerick Business School, as well as various other not-for-profit organisations. Bart read law at Louvain and continued his studies at the Vlerick Business School. And it was at Louvain that he met his wife and soul mate Ann. One of Bart’s mottos is a day without sport is a day lost.
