Today, the Flemish Minister of Environment Joke Schauvliege presented the new environmental permit for the innovative experience centre Uplace. This means that Uplace is fully permitted again! We are ready to take on our long-awaited role as a driver for the whole region. 100% committed to ensuring that constructions can start by the end of this year, we are working hard to open our doors late 2018.
The new environmental license is the logical next step following the final approval of the Regional Spatial Development Plan (RSDP) of the Flemish Strategic Area around Brussels (FSAB) earlier this year by the entire Flemish Government and the previous positive advice of the highest Flemish Environmental Administration (GMVC). The presentation of the new environmental permit by Minister Schauvliege is thus in line with the expectations and the continuation of consistent policy.
Uplace CEO Jan Van Lancker is obviously very satisfied with this important step in the development of Uplace: “The new environmental license is in line with the expectations following the final approval of the GRUP. On top of that, it is a positive sign for entrepreneurship and legal certainty in Flanders. If everything goes according to plan, we will start construction by the end of this year. After 8 years, the Vilvoorde-Machelen region will finally be able to welcome 3.250 jobs together with a much needed economic revival.”
Since the start of the project in 2006, we have had a challenging journey and we have received strong support from all around. Today, we would like to thank you all for your support! We are looking forward to further working with you, full of energy and persuasion, to make Uplace an innovative daytrip, the only one of its kind in Belgium, where shopping, relaxing, entertainment, work and just spending time come together in an enjoyable experience.
Best regards and see you soon,
The Uplace Team
