Bart VerhaegheChairman and purebred entrepreneur

‘It’s a well-known fact that I’m passionate about business, real estate and sport. At home, I’m completely devoted to our dogs, Max and Jack, and Moris, the tomcat. My wife thinks that I spoil the pets too much; she says they own me! They’re an outlet for me, a way of clearing my head when it’s full of project developments and exciting ideas. The world of experience shopping refuses to stay down; almost every day, I come up with inspiring ideas to make Uplace - and my own region - even better.’

Starting as a consultant with KPMG, Bart Verhaeghe quickly delved into entrepreneurship himself. He began with Verelst and raised the logistics real estate group Eurinpro from the ground up. When that group was sold, Bart saw the need for an all-in-one experience destination in Belgium and began laying the foundations for Uplace in 2007.
Today, Bart is chairperson and owner of Uplace, the Club Brugge football club and the value-investment fund, Redwoods Capital. He is also chairperson of the think-and-do tank Itinera Institute, founder of the BMC-Etixx Pro Triatlon Team Powered by Uplace and director of the Vlerick Business School. Bart studied law in Leuven and later gained an MBA at the Vlerick Business School. While in Leuven, he met his partner and soulmate, Ann. They have three children together.
